Hertfordshire based designer David Kirkby has released his latest collection of designs, entitled “Film”. The set is a collection of film inspired prints that, alongside his other body of work are “instantly iconic”.
The collection depicts infamous films such as Speed, Saw, 127 hours and Spinal Tap. Each film is illustrated using an infographic style image and printed in bold, bright color.
David Kirby’s collections “were born from a passion of great design, illustration and artwork.”(via david kirkby designs) and he takes a lot of inspiration for his work from book, travel, films and his young family. A designer by day, working from his studio in Hertfordshire, Kirkby is also a professional drummer and music teacher by night.
All his works are available to purchase online, and all the images are carefully hand screen-printed; the designer advocates the traditional screen printing process as it gives a better result for colorful imagery – “the colors ‘pop’ off of the page more as the ink sits on top of the paper, resulting in a higher opacity.” All inks used to produce the prints are hand mixed, and as each print will vary slightly due to the nature of the process they will all be unique.
The pictographic style film collection consists of 25 film titles in total represented in the artist’s unique style. They represent:
