In a bustling city like New York, the challenge isn’t finding something to do but rather deciding from a multitude of possibilities. Fortunately for us, NYC Creative Week makes it easy by providing a full week of chances for participation.
Started in 2009 by The One Club, a non profit organization whose mission is to “champion and promote excellence in advertising and design in all forms,” and proclaimed an annual city-wide event by the Office of the Mayor of New York, NYC Creative Week is a week long celebration of advertising and design including lectures, presentations, demonstrations and parties “designed to connect, enlighten, honor and inspire the creative community.”
This year marks the fourth edition of NYC Creative Week and the first time that The One Club is
partnering with consultancy Stillwell Partners, (best known as the organizer of Advertising Week) to bring NYC Creative Week to Brooklyn as well as Manhattan, with concurrent Creative Week seminars at Manhattan’s City Winery in lower Manhattan, May 7th–8th and Brooklyn’s Galapagos Art Space, May 7th–9th. It also marks the return of the Creative unConference, a highly interactive, free form take on the traditional conference format where participants engage around a central topic. This year’s prompt “What I Learned From…” is certain to elicit some interesting responses.
Kevin Swanepoel, President of The One Club, described how Creative Week has evolved, “Just as creativity and the passions that drive it evolve, Creative Week is evolving in breadth and scope and is transforming itself into one of the world’s most anticipated festivals,” Swanepoel added “This year’s events again promise to deliver first-class creative work from all corners of the globe and we look forward the week of May 7 to welcoming the world to New York City.”
Other anticipated event highlights include four major award shows; The One Show, The One Interactive Show, One Show Design and the 91st Annual Art Director’s Club Awards, Amy Poehler’s “Upright Citizens Brigade” sketch comedy and improv troupe, studio tours and seminars by leading agencies and individuals, including corporate partners Adobe® and Microsoft®. Through a self-described “enriched program” combining thought leadership, awards shows and unique special events Creative Week NYC 2012 offers a breadth of options for graphic design lovers, agency professionals and other assorted creative types to network, share, learn and enjoy.
