When students at Kansas University (KU) realized demand for quality design services on campus, they proposed an enterprising solution—a student run design center. According to The University Daily Kansan, “Student Senate president Libby Johnson and vice president Gabe Bliss pitched the idea” for the Student Design Center after learning that student organizations were having a hard time effectively communicating to the larger student population. Thus the KU Student Design Center was born. The center, which “serves as a creative... CONTINUE READING
Design agency Pentagram have created the new logo and identity for the International Design Alliance Congress, merging together silhouettes of six continents to create a new form. The IDA Congress takes place every two years, and the 2013 event will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. The concept of the new identity is around the idea of “an artistic restructuring of Pangaea”, the theory of an “entire earth” where, millions of years ago, all the world’s continents existed as a... After almost ten years working as freelance graphic and web designer, there are many things I miss about my time in graphic design school. First, the environment was excellent to become better at designing; no constraints, lots of creative freedom, passionate conversations about design between classmates, interesting teachers, and much more. However, I must say that although studying graphic design taught me some solid basics about graphic design, there are areas that I did not cover in graphic design... CONTINUE READING

Friends, lovers, countrymen give us your tweets. At least that’s what Unilever CPG beauty brand Dove is asking as part of their interactive Valentine’s Day campaign unveiled at London’s Victoria Station yesterday. A prime example of how a brand can successfully align message, medium and strategy, the twitter-based campaign, which runs from February 13-19 invites London’s over 350,000 daily commuters to respond to questions such as Monday’s “Tell us: What makes you feel beautiful every day?” and today’s “What... Last week some friends and I took a break from our respective creative pursuits and indulged in a craft beer tasting at the cozy, speak-easy themed craft beer bar Idle Hands in NYC. Naturally, the topic of packaging, specifically wine and beer labels came up. Yes, this is what designers talk about when they “let loose.” So I made mental note when our brewery representative called attention to the awesome label design for 21st Amendment’s Back in Black IPA,... Developing a website, even a small one, can easily turn into a daunting task without some sort of documented process in place. There are those sites that require little more than a designer sitting in front of their monitor tapping out some html and css. Other sites can involve an army of team members from graphic designers to coders, photographers to writers and a host of others in between. What they share, or at least should, is a process...
